Born in Niterói, Lucas Tolezano, also known as cosme sao Lucas, holds a bachelor’s degree in Digital Media from PUC-RJ and currently lives in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. His artistic practice seeks to deal with the popular knowledge and sensibility that Rap is committed to (where he developed his critical thinking during his adolescence), using the creative process of contemporary art, that, in contrast, worships inaccessibility. In 2017, along with his college friends, he founded A Noiva – Church of the Kingdom of Art, a congregation of artists who preach the faith in creative doing.
In the context of the church, he played a role in the organization and production of their own cults, group and individual ones, while doing other practices such as painting, performance and installation art.
In 2019, he was canonized for allegedly curating himself from procrastination and surviving two near-death experiences – a cancer and a traffic accident. Since then he is also known as Santo Tolezano, the saint of urgent practices, for those who want a cure for procrastination.
One of his major works as an artist was the development of a software that randomly and automatically generates Rap verses. At the same time that it shows his critical view about the repetition of themes and the aesthetic appeal of the genre, the project reignites his interest and starts his return to music as one of his most important types of media.
The artist recently produced the soundtrack “CROPPED”, composed of 7 tracks, which follows the homonymous exhibition by Edu de Barros. He also released the singles “giulia” and “bença, blondor”, which would be part of his first mixtape entitled “Aprendendo Autotune” (2020).
His current research has turned to acting methods, stage performance and the spectacle, all curiously opposed to his self-embarrassment, a common theme in his production.
