Maré de Matos is a transdisciplinary artist from the Vale do Rio Doce, Minas Gerais, Brazil. She graduated in visual arts at the guignard school (UEMG), master’s degree in literary theory (UFPE) and is currently working on the project Museum of emotions for her doctorate (diversitas, USP). she works on the tension between version and truth; single history and polyphonic counter-narratives; power and position. She researches representation and responsibility, the invention of race and narrative of self, imaginary and delirium of modernity, subjectivity and black poetics. Her work is situated, above all, in the gap between the territories of image and word. She is interested in the black atlantic as a process of formation, in revision as a principle, and in poetry as a political tool for emancipation. works in hybrid languages and defends the right to emotion of subjects deprived of the status of humanity.

Founded Bendito Ofício (2010) where she develops practices and approximations between word, image, education and life and co-founded the organization MUNA (black women in the arts, 2017). Develops the project AS poetas do pajeú in the backlands of Pernambuco (Fundação de Cultura de Pernambuco), among other projects.
