PIPA Prize 2024 nominee

Miguel Penha Chiquitano was born on the banks of the Cuiabá River (1961). Originally from the Chiquitano and Bororo people, his practice takes shape in the density and encounter of the Amazon, the Pantanal, and the Cerrado, the biomes of Mato Grosso, where he lives and works. In the density of the forest, he lives among trees whose trunks and multicolored leaves provide a unique plastic vocabulary in Brazilian painting. As a guardian of the forest, his landscapes discard any conception of life that disconnects the subject from nature.
