Born in São Gonçalo, Brazil, 1980.
Lives and works in Salvador, Brazil.
Born in the Rio de Janeiro metropolitan area, Arthur Scovino moved to Salvador, Bahia, in 2008 to study at the School of Fine Arts of Federal University of Bahia (UFBA). Since then, he has pursued artistic research regarding the environment, culture, and social-affective relations in Bahia, especially in Salvador. Working with many medias such as performance, installation, photography, video and drawings, Scovino investigates aesthetics and contemporary artistic thinking through performative and relational actions. His recent works talk about symbols of religion and Brazilian miscegenation.
He has participated in performance art shows, solo, and group exhibitions. In 2013, he received the award from the Visual Arts Salon of Bahia. In 2014 participated in the 3rd Bahia Biennial and the 31st São Paulo Biennial.
“Scovino’s artistic thougth conveys a unique experiential tonality, and, as a whole, his imagery creates different aesthetic shades. Almost liturgically, he plunges in an ambiguous territory, like an offering, a religious rite that jumbles eroticism, ritualism and the incorporation of mythologies as a learning strategy and a way to be in the world. He seeks an interactive advance towards the onlooker’s regard and triggers a drive through the hybrid character of his work, in a performance-bound aesthetic effort”.
