Luciana Paiva is a visual artist, lives and works in Brasilia, Brazil. In her production she investigates the relations between writing and space from diverse media and materials, with main interest in the use of the elements of writing (books, pages and letters). The artist’s works deal with geometrization and the displacement of text in space, where reading becomes a visual event to be experienced in different scales and situations. The artist is also interested in the notion of juxtaposition present both in the construction of language and in the configuration of the urban landscape, starting mainly from its local landscape, the city of Brasília, to think about construction issues and the imaginary of modern utopia. She has a PhD in Arts in Methods and Processes in Contemporary Art by the University of Brasília with the thesis: “Front-verso-vast: by a topography of the page”. She founded the group ‘Spaces of Writing’ (2016) of which she is one of the members. She has participated in exhibitions and events since 2004 and has works in several private and public collections in Brazil.
