Goiânia, Brazil, 1977.
Lives and works in São Paulo, Brazil.

PIPA 2010 nominee.

Marcelo Amorim collects and reappropriates images, using them as a starting point to produce drawings, paintings and videos. Taken from private collections, manuals, school books, social media, amongst others, the images come from various different sources and seem to have been produced in a distant past. Through montage and transpositions, the artist makes room for the original intentions, particularities and gestures contained to be manifested, revealing their role in maintaining the status quo, and hence raising awareness to the historical cultural values and its evolution throughout time.

He has held individual exhibitions at Centro Cultural São Paulo, Paço das Artes, Museu de Arte de Ribeirão Preto, Galeria Zipper, Galeria Jaqueline Martins, Galeria Oscar Cruz, Centro Cultural Elefante, besides having participated in group shows at Caixa Cultural, Instituto Figueiredo Ferraz, Memorial da América Latina, Paço das Artes and Sesc, amongst others.
