Series
“Bookworms, dots and lines”
The holes made by worms on the pages of an old book on living animals were marked, exactly where they originally were, on a new piece of paper. The corresponding dots were linked to each other with lines, suggesting possible worm paths and drawing volumes and plans. By relating this new geometric graphic occupation to the organic images of the animals on the book page, other relations between these two bodies in space are created.
“Termite Nursery”
In a wooden box infested with termites, pieces of paper of different origins and kinds are placed to feed the insects. Notebook pages, subway maps, music scores, colored wrapping and construction paper are bored by the termites, leaving behind their holes – the starting points for the job to be done. Termite Nursery unfolds new possibilities according to the media used to explore this material.
“Bookworms map / Termite Nursery”- urban intervention
In the termite nursery, the insects had fed on a map of the London Tube, leaving their holes behind. One of them is chosen for the intervention. The artist writes a letter, places it in a Brazilian envelope, goes to the place marked by the termites on the map and picks out the best spot to leave the envelope, where one reads: ‘Take it, it’s for you’.
Inside, in the letter, there is a piece of Proust’s In search of Lost Time and the following instructions: ‘close your eyes and try to rebuild your most remote memory. Please, send a description of the images you remembered to the artist’s email. You may reveal your identity, or not’.
