Fernanda Lopes

Fernanda Lopes is an art critic and researcher. D. from the School of Fine Arts at UFRJ, she is the Artistic Director of the Instituto Pintora Djanira and a professor at the Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage, where she was a student. Organized, along with Aristóteles A. Predebon, the book “Francisco Bittencourt: Art-Dynamite” (Tamanduá-Arte, 2016). She wrote the books “Área Experimental: Lugar, Espaço e Dimensão do Experimental na Arte Brasileira dos Anos 1970s” (Critical Production Stimulus Grant, Minc/Funarte, 2012) and “Éramos o equipa do Rei – A Experiência Rex” (Marcantonio Vilaça Fine Arts Award, Funarte, 2006).

Among the curatorial work she has been doing since 2009 is acting as associate curator of the Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro (2016-2020), associate curator of the Centro Cultural São Paulo (2010-2012), and guest curator of the Special Room of the Rex Group at the 29th Bienal de São Paulo (2010). She is currently associate curator of the exhibition “Maria Martins – Desejo Imaginante” at MASP (2021-2022) and at Casa Roberto Marinho (2022). In 2017 she received, alongside Fernando Cocchiarale, from the Brazilian Association of Art Critics (ABCA) the Maria Eugênia Franco Award (exhibition curator in 2016) for curating the exhibition “Em Polvorosa – Um panorama das coleções MAM-Rio”. She is a member of the Editorial Board of Concinnitas magazine (UERJ).
