Josué Mattos is general director of the Centro Cultural Veras, in Florianópolis. He graduated in History of Art and Archeology at Université Paris X Nanterre, where he obtained a Master 1 and 2 in History of Contemporary Art. In 2009, he completed his master’s in Curatorial Practices at Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. At the invitation of Sesc-SP, he conceived and curated the first edition of Frestas – Trienal de Artes / What would the world be without the things that don’t exist? and Our proposition is dialogue. He received the CNI SESI SENAI Marcantônio Vilaça Award for Visual Arts (curator category), with the Brasil Desamparado project, set up at the National Historical Museum (RJ), the Ceará Museum of Contemporary Art, the Santa Catarina Art Museum and the Goiás Contemporary Art Museum. He was director of the Santa Catarina Art Museum and resident curator of Aomori Contemporary Art Center, in Japan.

Among the exhibitions are: O cio da terra / Ócio da terra (Fundación Pablo Atchugarry / The55 Project, Miami, 2023); Resonance Community (Centro Cultural Veras, 2023); Sandra Cinto: Nights of hope in Cidade Maçarico (Casa Triângulo, 2022); Mônica Nador and Jamac – Namblá Xokleng, Desterro-Desaterro (MASC, 2017-2019); Albano Afonso: Amor Fati (Museu de Arte de Ribeirão Preto, 2014), I was what you are and you will be what I am (Paço das Artes, 2012), Tânia Mouraud: La Fabrique (Sesc Bom Retiro, 2012), How time passes when we have fun (Casa Triângulo 2011), Around here, forms have become attitudes (Sesc Vila Mariana, 2010), Brígida Baltar and Sandra Cinto – Terres et Cieux (Mairie VIIIème, 2009). He was curator of Itaú Rumos (2020-2021) and member of the PIPA Award Nomination Committee in 2015, 2017, 2022 and 2024.
