Orlando Maneschy

Lives and works in Belém, Brazil.
Member of the PIPA Nominating Committee 2015, 2016 and 2018.

Researcher, artist, independent curator and art critic. PhD in Communication and Semiotics from PUC-SP. Post-doctoral training at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Lisbon. He is a professor at the Federal University of Pará, working in graduate and a Masters degree. Coordinator of the research group – Bordas Diluídas (UFPA / CNPq). He is an articulator for Mirante – Território Móvel, an active platform that enables art propositions.

He is the Curator of Collection Amazoniana of Art in UFPA.

As an artist has participated in exhibitions and projects in Brazil and abroad, such as: Projeto Arte Pará 2017; Projeto Arte Pará, with “Sala Especial Algures” or the “Primeiro Beijo”, 2016; “Outra Natureza”, Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade de Lisboa, 2015; “Horizonte Generoso – Uma experiência no Pará”, Galeria Luciana Caravello, Rio de Janeiro, 2015; “Transborda”, Galeria Casa Triângulo, São Paulo, 2015; “Triangulações”, Pinacoteca UFAL – Maceió, CCBEU – Belém and MAM – Bahia, from Sept. to Nov. 2014; “Pororoca: A Amazônia no MAR”, Museu de Arte do RIo de Janeiro, 2014; “Rotas: desvios e outros ciclos”, CDMAC, Fortaleza, 2012 ; “Entre o Verde Desconforto do Úmido”, CCSP, São Paulo, 2012; “Superperformance”, São Paulo, 2012 ; Arte Pará 2011, Belém, 2011; “Wild Nature”, Alemanha, 2009; “Equatorial”, Mexico City, 2009; amongst others.

Maneschy has received, among other awards, the Bolsa Funarte de Estímulo à Produção Crítica em Artes ( 2008 Scholarship Programme); Marcantonio Vilaça Arts Award / Prêmio Procultura de Estímulo às Artes Visuais 2010 da Funarte e o Prêmio Conexões Artes Visuais – MINC | Funarte | Petrobras 2012, which structured the UFPA Amazonian Art Collection, performing shows, seminars, website and publication in the “Projeto Amazônia, Lugar da Experiência”.

Maneschy has developed, amongst others, the following curatorships: “Projeto Correspondência” (circulation platform via art-postcard), 2003-2008; “Entorno de Operações Mentais”, 2006; “Contigüidades” – from the 1970s to the 2000s (40 years of art history in Belém, Pará, Brazil), 2008; Art Project Pará 2008, 2009 and 2010; “Amazônia, a arte”, 2010; “Contra-Pensamento Selvagem (dentro de Caos e Efeito)”, (with Paulo Herkenhoff, Clarissa Diniz and Cayo Honorato), 2011; “ProjetoAmazônia, Lugar da Experiência”, 2012.
