A visual artist with a bachelor’s degree from the Federal University of Bahia, Rebeca Carapiá was born in Cidade Baixa, in the city of Salvador. She is interested in the relations produced between language, conflict, body and territory, where she creates and organizes a set of practices and reflections through different platforms of exhibition, training and artistic experimentation. Through sculptures, copper on canvas, drawings, installations, prints, texts and objects, her research seeks to create a cosmology around the conflicts of the language and body norms, in addition to expanding a geopolitical debate that involves memory, environmental racism, precariousness economies, ancestral technologies, sexual and gender dissidences and the power relations between speech and word.

Inquiring about how to talk about difference without explaining it and performing the deconstruction of feminine geographies, in 2020 she opened her notebooks in her first solo exhibition, “Como colocar ar nas palavras”, which took place at Galeria Leme in São Paulo.
She participated in the group exhibitions “Enciclopédia Negra” at the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, 2021; “Os dias antes da quebra” at Pivô, where she presented the work “Para raios para energias confusas”; from the IMS Invites program with the series of prints “Das palavras que não vou dizer”; “Metal contras as nuvens”: A meeting between artists Koffi Mensah Akagbor and Rebeca Carapiá at Goethe Bahia and at the 3rd SESC Arts Triennial – “O rio é um serpente”. Among other projects, she participated in the Veículo Sur 2020 residency program, the PlusAfroT residency at Villa Waldberta in Germany in 2019 and the II Residency Program at the Valongo International Image Festival.
