René’s work is part of a lineage of artists who seek to explore the possibilities of painting after the technical, visual and conceptual upheavals caused by Pop Art or, even, by the tragicomic paintings of the neo-expressionists of the 1980s. Some of the names that in current art have ventured to evoke and reprocess the works of names like Warhol or Polke, without, however, fearing their singular figures and historical conquests. Prince and Wool can be seen, respectively, as a cowboy and a punk who act, with the healthy carelessness of any artist, on the pictorial plane.

René Machado acts in a similar way in “despair city”. Locked in his studio, at Casa Arlette, in Rio de Janeiro, during his intense weeks of work, he searches his own professional origins as an advertiser, and his experiences as a child of the suburbs of Rio de Janeiro, assimilating them to the varied and lively imagery of urban art and , more recently, to the artistic possibilities surrounding the idea of “abstract painting” today.

His works have toured several countries and art institutions such as: Brazil, USA, Italy, Spain and France. They appear in important collections, highlighting Luciano Benetton and the Fadel collection. In 2020, he creates Casa Arlette, a center for contemporary artistic production, which, in addition to the resident artists, has become a meeting space for intellectuals from the art genres.
