Roberto Vinhaes

Lives between Lisbon, Portugal, London, United Kingdom and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Founder of the PIPA Institute and creator of the PIPA Prize.
Member of the PIPA Nominating Committee 2021.

In 2009, when Luiz Camillo Osorio became curator of the Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro (MAM-Rio) and knowing Vinhaes’ love for contemporary art, he requested a contribution to the museum. Instead of making a simple donation, Vinhaes wanted to do something bigger that would not only support the museum, but would reach a wider spectrum. To make it viable the PIPA Institute was founded. The first initiative was the creation of the PIPA Prize, which helped to add more than 30 works to the MAM-Rio’s collection and through its online platform became the window into Brazilian contemporary art.
