Lines, graphics, reflexive gestures, compositions based on points and concrete forms, verbal analogies of images: these are all traits present in Thomaz Rosa’s oeuvre. His works are thought of as autonomous construction capable of describing feelings and states of the creative process – between romantic idealism and the rational planning typical of the modern tradition.

Rosa’s works always seem to question their insertion in this word in a semiological way, where the works attempt to live with Art History in a reciprocal manner. Thomaz’s practice tries to reprocess through its own prose language the influences that he subjectively chooses as a reference between various painters-artists, Brazilian or not, in specific moments of his production.

These choices imbue the works with a passerby character, a stroll that sets out without a clear objective, in which walking without destination turns the self into a flâneur in the midst of these choices, intricating an interaction between matter and meaning. This way, the discrepancies between singularity and the whole, individual and history, personal experience and significance take on a crystalline form.

The symbolic memory, its empirical force and the artist’s immediate experience with the work take form in this project. Rosa’s ultimate goal is to showcase a painting that speaks about painting; to present one or more declinations of various languages, because language is fluid and mutable, and, like Thomaz’s art, is constantly evolving.
