Lives and works in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

PIPA Prize 2024 nominee.

His research investigates and reconstructs the representation of black people in Brazil’s socio-political history. His work opposes images and languages that reinforce stereotypes of black people as subordinate and dehumanized figures. The artist focuses on the figuration and representation of black people as ever-present and characteristically sensitive figures in Brazilian history. Through drawing, they are presented in situations of affection, intimacy, rest and collective gestures, strengthening memories and reinventing imaginaries. Yan Nicolas São Thiago works on projects as an artist and art educator.
