Nova Iguaçu, Brazil, 1977
Lives and works in Lisboa, Portugal

PIPA Prize 2023 nominee

Her artistic work process is based on reflections related to the following issues: embroidery time, expanded time and attempts to slow it down; the time of plants and their relationship with people and their beliefs; the capture and archiving of the things of the world; the memory of the present time; the way we try to store images and words and the way they tend to fade over time. In recent years, she has been developing work in embroidery, exploring the relationship between archives, plants, words, time and memory.

Yuli Anastassakis holds a bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences from IFCS/UFRJ and a master’s degree in Contemporary Artistic Processes from Ppgartes/UERJ. She took courses in video art, drawing and painting at EAV in Parque Lage and is currently part of the artistic monitoring group at NowHere, in Lisbon, with the orientation of Cristiana Tejo. She was assistant to the artists Barrão and Carlito Carvalhosa. Yuli works with art production since 1998.
